Introduction About:

Categories are used for classifying the items. More to this, you can set category band discounts per category.

 

Terminology Steps:

 

Define Product Categories

  1. Go to the Inventory module.
  2. Select Category under the Setup menu. The Item Category setup form will display.   

Setup Parent Categories

  1. Click on the New button from the toolbar menu.
  2. Enter the Category Code and Description.
  3. The value, "Default", is set as the default parent category. If you want to create a parent category, type in the category code in the Parent Category field.
  4. You can set up the sub categories and select the appropriate parent categories for each. See Also: Setup Categories.
  5. Optional: Setup category price bands. Note that price band would only have an effect on the immediate categories. Price bands setup for parent categories will only have effect on the items where it was assigned not the items in the sub categories included in the parent category.  See Also: How To > Create Category Price Bands
  6. Setup the Web Options. See Also: How To > Setup Web Options
  7. Save the details before closing the Category setup form.

Setup Categories

  1. Click on the New button from the toolbar menu.
  2. Enter the Category Code and Description.
  3. The value, "Default", is set as the default parent category. You may use the Default category as the parent category for new sub categories or new parent categories. See Also: Setup Parent Categories
  4. You can set up the sub categories and select the appropriate parent categories for each.
  5. You can optionally add category band discount details for items with this category. See Also: How To > Setup category band discount
  6. Setup the Web Options. See Also: How To > Setup web options
  7. Save the details before closing the Category setup form.

ShowSetup category and product mapping

The Sort Order tab is used to manage the mapping and sort order of the items within the category. The Sort Order tab allows you to set up how the categories are shown in the web store.

 

Setup category mapping,

  1. Click on the Sort Order tab.
  2. To move a parent category up or down the list, select the Parent Category from the list and click on the Up or Down buttons. Use the same in moving the categories inside the parent category.

Setup product mapping,

  1. Click on the Item Mapping button. The Item Mapping window will display.
  2. Select the items to include in the item category by clicking on the Include checkbox. Unchecked items will be removed from the category.
  3. To move products up or down the list, select the item from the list and click on the Up or Down buttons. 

Remove product mapping,

  1. To remove the product mapping in this category, click on the Remove Item Mapping button.

 

ShowSet up GL Accounts

Category GL Class templates are grouped posting accounts for the products included in a specific product category. If your account analysis is based on Category Groups, you will need to set up the category GL Class Template properly from the Category setup form. See Also: Accounting Module Preferences

  1. Switch to the Accounts tab of the Category setup form. You will find a default GL Class Code, "Default Category". You may modify or create new Category GL class templates.
  2. You may amend the default account codes in the default category class code or create new ones using the Item GL Class Template setup form. See Also: Item GL Class Templates

 

ShowCreate category price bands

  1. From the Detail tab of the Category setup form, click on the Add Pricing Band Discount button to display the Pricing Band form. See Also: Category Band Discount

ShowInactivate a product category

  1. Select Category under the Setup menu of the Inventory Module. The Category setup form will display.
  2. Select the category in the list to go to the Details tab.
  3. Uncheck the Active checkbox to set the category status to inactive.
  4. Save the details before closing the form.

 

ShowDelete product categories

Note that categories that were assigned to inventory items or category band discounts cannot be deleted.

  1. Select Category under the Setup menu of the Inventory module. The Category setup form will display.
  2. Select the category in the list to go to the Details tab.
  3. Click on the Delete option in the toolbar menu.
  4. Choose Yes in the prompt to delete.
