How To:
Get the tax
rate from the postal codes
Note that the tax rates have to be set up from the Postal Code form to be able to get rates from the postal codes. See Also: System Setup > Postal Codes.
- From the What percentage is the tax/vat on the net goods/services field, click on the option and select Postal Rate.
- Save the details before closing the form.
Maintain tax
components and tax schemes
To edit/maintain tax components,
- Go to the System Manager Module.
- Select Tax Component under the Setup menu. The Tax Component setup form will display.
- Edit the details as necessary and save before closing the form.
- You can also maintain tax components from the Tax Scheme setup form. In the Tax Scheme setup form, drill down on the tax component from Existing Tax Component list or Selected Component list. This bring up the Tax Component setup form.
To edit/maintain tax schemes,
- Go to the System Manager Module.
- Select Tax Scheme under the Setup menu. The Tax Scheme setup form will display.
- Edit the details as necessary and save before closing the form.
Copy tax
components from other tax schemes
- In the Tax Scheme setup form, click on the Copy From button to look up existing tax schemes and copy its tax components.
Get tax code
from customer, supplier or inventory item
- Get tax code from customer - enable this option in the Customer Preferences to get the tax code from the customer for new transactions. See Also: Customer Preferences
- Get tax code from supplier - enable this option in the Supplier Preferences to get the tax code from the supplier for new transactions. See Also: Supplier Module Preferences
- Get tax code from inventory item - disable the options mentioned above and set the inventory item tax option to Item and assign a tax code. See Also: Inventory Setup > Inventory Items

Inactivate a
tax component or tax scheme
To inactivate a tax component,
- From the Tax Component setup form, select the tax component.
- Uncheck the Active checkbox.
- Save the details before closing the Tax Component setup form.
To inactivate a tax scheme,
- From the Tax Scheme setup form, select the tax scheme.
- Uncheck the Active checkbox.
- Save the details before closing the Tax Scheme setup form.
Note that tax components that are assigned to tax schemes or used in any transaction cannot be deleted.
- In the Tax Component setup form, select the tax component to delete.
- In the Details tab, click on the Delete option in the toolbar menu.
- Choose Yes in the prompt to delete.
Note that tax schemes that are assigned to class templates or entities or used in any transaction cannot be deleted. Note that tax components included in the tax scheme are not deleted.
- In the Tax Scheme setup form, select the tax scheme to delete.
- In the Details tab, click on the Delete option in the toolbar menu.
- Choose Yes in the prompt to delete.
